The Canadian government has introduced the Working Canadians Rebate, a one-time tax-free $250 payment to help ease the financial burden on workers. If you worked in 2023 and meet a few simple requirements, this rebate could be yours in early spring 2025.
Who is Eligible for the Rebate?
The rebate is available to Canadians who:
- Filed a 2023 tax return by the end of this year, reporting employment or self-employment income.
- Earned up to $150,000 in individual net income in 2023.
- Are a resident of Canada on March 31, 2025.
- Are not incarcerated for 90 days or more before April 1, 2025.
- Must also be alive on April 1, 2025.
In essence, if you earned less than $150,000 in 2023 and filed your taxes, you’re likely eligible for the $250 rebate.
When and How Will You Get the Payment?
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is preparing to distribute the payments automatically. Most Canadians will receive their rebate via direct deposit if they are set up for other government payments. For others, the payment will be delivered as a cheque by mail.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed the payments will be sent out in April 2025, providing an extra $250 to help offset rising costs.

Why is the Government Offering This Rebate?
The rebate is part of the government’s plan to support workers and help them manage everyday expenses. The government cannot control rising prices at the checkout, but they can help ensure more money stays in Canadians’ pockets to help with groceries, bills, and more.
Make sure to file your 2023 taxes before the year’s end to ensure you receive this much-needed rebate. Early spring 2025 is just around the corner!
